Elle’s “Librarian-Inspired Spring Fashion”

quote earrings

I came across this feature on “bookish accessories” from Elle and am a bit mixed on my feelings about it.  Yeah, the above quotation earings are pretty awesome.  As are the $1,520 “book” canvas minaudières.  $1,520!  Not that I don’t believe that librarians shouldn’t have the finest things in life, but really?  For screenprinted metal boxes?

Of course, these clutches are proceeded by an embellished (!) Charlotte Russe cardigan.

I don’t understand you, Elle.  But I admit that everything on your list is bookish.  And I would happily wear it all, except for that heinous Oscar de la Renta jacket.  But this dress over skinny black pants?  Yes please!

librarian dress

I’m not sure what makes it librarian… maybe it’s the sleeves, the gathered shoulders or the allover polyester-blouse-vibe.  No matter, I like it.  You got me, Elle.  You got me.  I’m just sorry that your librarian-inspired looks can only lead to Elle-inspired-librarians.  Designers may have us in mind, but they certainly don’t care about our budgets.
