I have just begun an internship in the archives of an esteemed art museum. A few days before the start of my position, after I had arrived in my city of temporary residence and what had been packed could not be un-packed, I received an intern handbook with the following wardrobe instructions:
“Men are to wear jackets and ties. Flip-flops are strongly discouraged.” 
Translation: “We require very formal dress. Kind of.” Panic ensued.
Vagueness is not a virtue, nor does such stricture belong in scripture. Let it be known, o ye future administrators of information, thou shalt leave not gaping holes in institutional policies, and yet seek to control every move of the employee’s hand. If you’re going to have a dress code, make some damn sense.
